For obvious reasons it has been a challenging year for most. I think we can all agree that we would like to leave the words coronavirus, lockdown and pandemic in 2020 and regain some normality in 2021. However, it is the time of year for reflection. A chance to appreciate the triumphs, to recognise the difficulties and the lessons learned from a ‘unique’ 12 months.
The positives
2020 has given us much to be grateful for. The Threat Protect team has grown from two to five (six if you include new recruit Harry), with Miles, Glyn and I joining Jonil and Lia to operate in the sales and marketing functions of the business (not forgetting Harry, the company dog of course!).
In finding each other we have built strong and supportive team that feels 10 times its actual size. Together we bring different skills, backgrounds and ways of thinking enabling us to develop supportive relationships that extend way beyond the workplace. We are not just colleagues but best friends which has been refreshing to find; especially for myself making the move to a new City for a new role at the height of the pandemic.
Looking outside of Threat Protect, there were a number of examples of individual brilliance that restored our faith in humanity. Earlier this year Captain Tom Moore raised £32 million for the NHS by walking laps of is garden, an amazing effort from an individual approaching his 100th birthday. Seeing people use their sphere of influence for good extends to footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaign for school meals result in a government U-turn and funding to keep children in need fed.
Lessons learned
With every challenge comes the opportunity to learn and grow. And this year has been no different. The global health crisis has taught us the importance of collaboration, of taking care of ourselves and others around us, and of being grateful for all the good things that we have in our lives – the things that we often take for granted like seeing family and friends, being able to go to the pub, and going to the gym.
This year we have all missed being able to connect in person. Whilst platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been fantastic for keeping the conversations going and allowing us to socialise, there is nothing like meeting people at networking events and socials. Whilst they are fun, we have all had enough of Zoom quizzes. Here’s to hoping we can meet again at industry events in the not too distant future!

Looking forward
Taking on board the events of the past 12 months, it’s time to look forward to the future. Here at Threat Protect we are excited about the possibilities that the new year will bring. The recent news of the Coronavirus vaccine promises a return to ‘normality’ and with it the chance to get back into the world and network at events and meetings and carry out the campaign ideas that gave been scuppered by the guidelines and restrictions. Watch this space!
All that’s left to say is thank you to all our clients and partners for their support during the last twelve months and here’s to more positive news and success in 2021!
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
